The Fuente de los Baños in Montanejos, with its 25°C waters, is a impressive natural hot spring in a dreamlike setting.

A Day at The Fuente de los Baños de Montanejos Baths

If you're looking to enjoy a day surrounded by nature and wellness with a touch of legend, then hidden in the heart of Alto Mijares lies one of Spain’s most spectacular natural treasures.

At the Montanejos Baths, crystal-clear thermal waters flow directly from a spring that releases 6,000 liters per minute and stays at a steady 25ºC all year round.

The natural pools are surrounded by an awe-inspiring gorge carved over time by the Mijares River's course.

The Baths are more than just a picture-perfect landscape — their crystal-clear turquoise waters, declared of public utility by Royal Decree in 1863, are renowned for their mineral-rich, health-boosting properties.

To add even more magic to this captivating spot, its history is linked to a legend dating back to the 13th century. According to the story, the Almohad king Abu Zayd ordered the construction of these baths so that women could preserve their beauty and youth forever.

During the winter months, you can enjoy the waters at your own pace. However, if you visit during high season, access is regulated to protect the environment, and you'll need to purchase an entry ticket before they sell out.

If you enjoy walking, besides relaxing in the crystal-clear natural pools, you can make the most of your day by exploring one of the hiking routes through the canyon.

One of the most popular routes follows the course of the Mijares River, offering spectacular views of the canyon. You can also visit the Cirat dam spillway (El Chorro), where you'll feel the force of the water and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It is a perfect spot to practice adventure sports!
