Villafamés
Villafamés, carved into rock like a living canvas, charms with its medieval old town and postcard-perfect streets, one of Spain’s most beautiful villages.
What to See in Villafamés
Villafamés is located on top of a hill in the interior of the province, far from the bustling coast of Castellón.
The best way to visit Villafamés is to wander through the narrow, labyrinthine cobblestone streets of its old town, the quartijo. There, every corner reveals photogenic spots filled with flowers, stone arches, and whitewashed houses that blend into the mountainside.
One of its most unique and iconic spots is the Roca Grossa, a massive red rock weighing over 2,000 tons that merges with the heart of the village, creating a charming harmony.
At the top of the hill are the remains of Villafamés Castle, an Arab-origin fortress that allows visitors to travel back in time. The real reward, however, is the breathtaking panoramic view of the valley from above.
If you want to visit the village's churches, in the lower part you'll find the Iglesia de La Asunción Church, an 18th-century Baroque building notable for its blue-tiled dome and robust façade. In the old town, you can visit the Iglesia de La Sangre Church, a much older Gothic-style church.
Keep in mind that the streets in the center are quite narrow and mostly pedestrianized. The best option is to leave your car in one of the free public parking lots on the outskirts before exploring Villafamés.
